Extend Mode:This Hub extends two external monitors by connecting to host Macbook Pro. the two external monitors displays same show, and host laptop screen displays another show or content compared to the two external monitors.
Mirror Mode:There will be total three same shows if you hook up the hub to the host Macbook laptop by its video ports( HDMI and VGA),the two external monitors duplicate the things of host laptop.

The USB C ports on the Laptop look the same by the appearance design, but they have several critical differences between Thunderbolt 3, USB-C 3.1 Gen 2, and USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 protocol. The difference between the three technologies(protocol) is bandwidth.

Important Notes
1. Please make sure your laptop's USB-C port supports the display(video) output feature, and Mac OS only supports Mirror mode instead of Extend mode.
