Tormented and betrayed by Ares, the Greek god of War, the Spartan, Kratos, has slain the Olympian and become the new wargod in his place but his pain and torment does not end. After his godhood is stripped from him and his army of Spartans is destroyed by Zeus, Kratos vows vengeance and seeks to undo his past by journeying to the Island of Creation where the Fates weave the destiny of god and mortal, alike. Along the way, Kratos must gain the help of the Titans and overcome heroes and monsters from Greek mythology, and even the Olympian gods themselves.
God of War has set the standard for combat play with a combat engine that provides, deep, flexible attacks and graphic displays of bloody action. Combat-ending mini games provide cinematic finishes for defeated enemies. In addition to the twin Blades of Athena chained to his arms, Kratos acquires other weapons that can be constantly upgraded as well as magical powers that let him take on distant or multiple foes. Whether its high above the earth on the back of Pegasus, beneath it with the Titan, Prometheus or in the halls of Olympus itself, no man – or god – will stop Kratos from taking his vengeance.
