5.25" Propylene Woofer Ceiling Speakers

Our ICE520 5 1/4-inch ceiling speaker with polypropylene woofer is a real steal. The ICE520s are often used in commercial applications where good sound is needed in large areas without a huge cost; however, many of our customers are homeowners who and install the ICE520's in hallways, dinning rooms, garages, etc. Features of the 5.25" speakers include polypropylene woofers and PEI dome tweeter for excellent coverage.

What Kind of Cable Should I Use?
If you're thinking about using regular old speaker wire for your in-wall speaker, take a step back. That wire was never designed to run inside walls. The National Electrical Code (NEC) specifies fire-retardant wire in all crawl spaces or wall cavities. CL-3 rated wire is not much more expensive and includes special shielding specifically for in-wall use. OSD Audio offers CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for all residential and most commercial in-wall and in-ceiling applications. Always check your local building codes before you run wires.

How Do I Know What Size Speaker to Use?
The ICE520 Ceiling Speaker has a 5-inch cone woofer. A speaker ability to produce low frequencies depends on different factors but one factor always remains true--the bigger the woofer, the better it will be at producing low frequencies. The ICE520 in-ceiling is a smaller speaker than our 6" or 8-inch models, so if heavy bass is very important to you, consider a bigger size cone.

Testing, Testing, Testing
Many customers like to test the sound quality of their new OSD Audio in-ceiling speakers before they install them. That perfectly fine but remember that these flush-mount speakers use an infinite baffle design, which uses the wall or ceiling cavity as the enclosure. Uninstalled in-wall/in-ceiling speakers will sound weak and tinny because without the proper enclosure, the speaker can produce the sound pressure level it needs. If you want to try them out, we recommend mounting the in-ceiling speakers into a box of about 3 cubic ft. or larger; or simply mount them in the ceiling and then listen. This will give you an accurate measure of the sound quality.

Can I Paint the Grilles to Match My Room?
You sure can! Painting the grilles/trim won harm your speakers but we recommend using only spray paint, not a brush. Brushing the grilles can clog the holes and interfere with sound quality. We also recommend using a fine spray paint gun. Our in-ceiling speakers also come with a paint shield to help guide you through the painting process.

For a retrofit installation, no construction bracket is needed.
